My introduction with Melchizedek happened in a very personal and profound way, and in many ways it was a part of my own spiritual awakening. The first time Melchizedek appeared to me was whilst I was in a deep state of meditation, and 'he' told me who 'he' was and 'he' placed a signet ring on my finger. My initial encounter with Melchizedek was magical and I felt as if I had been touched by a Being of Light with incredible power and was given a potent 'energy boost', however, I knew nothing about 'him'. Melchizedek has subsequently appeared to me on many occasions and although I do not always see 'him', I am aware of 'his' presence and 'he' often appears to me as a radiant purple white light. Since my first encounter with this mysterious figure, my path has altered course and my spiritual eyes have been opened, and my own inner sight has been awakened, as well as my soul purpose.

Melchizedek is a historical figure in the old testament of the Bible and is said to be the original Priest. All Priest / Priestess traditions are descendants of his teachings. Some scholars believe that he wrote The Book of Job and many other teachings on the principle of ‘The Law of One.’ The ‘School of the Prophets,’ the Essene Order and the Great White Brotherhood are a result of Melchizedek’s works. There is a whole school of thought that believes that hat Jesus himself was an Essene.

Contrary to what might be expected, the first priest mentioned in the Bible is not from the Tribe of Levi. In fact, the first priest is described before Levi is even born. In Genesis 14, we are introduced to Melchizedek, who is described as ''Priest of God Most High.” Identified in Psalm 110 and extensively reflected upon in the Letter to the Hebrews, Melchizedek remains an elusive figure in the Scripture.

The first question that arises is regarding Melchizedek’s very identity: who is he? His appearance in Genesis 14 is quite minimal and set at a point very early in Abram’s faith journey, as Abram defeats several war lords in the land of Canaan. Abram presents Melchizedek with a tithe, Melchizedek offers a sacrifice of bread and wine.

Genesis 14:18-20 "Then Melchizedek King of Salem (later called Jerusalem) brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Identified in the Scripture as “King of Salem,” ancient Jewish sources see him as the leader of the entire area, a wise sage whom the rest must respect. But this does not answer the question of his identity. We must look back even further.

Psalm 110:4   King David spoke of the coming Liberator of Israel: The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 5:6, 5:10 and 6:20 The Divine itself said of Jesus Christ: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 7:1-3 Melchizedek had no parents, no human birth and was immortal: This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

Melchizedek, the first priest mentioned in the Bible predates both the Hebrew and Christian priesthoods. He is described as being without parents, without birth, without death, resembling the Son of God, immortal. He gave a Divine blessing to Abraham. Many Christians understand Melchizedek to be a “manifestation” of Christ, without human birth, which occurred several thousand years before his physical “incarnation” as Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ Avatar.

The Order of Melchizedek is an ancient lineage of priesthood with the gift of Blessing (Sanskrit: Deeksha) the ability to transfer a very tangible and permanent Divine “Blessing” to the recipient. Abraham, the patriarch of both the Hebrew and Arab people, and as such, the progenitor of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, received Melchizedek’s Blessing and gave to him a tenth of all his treasures. This meant in Abraham’s culture that he recognized Melchizedek as his superior. King David received a Divine revelation that the coming Messiah of Israel would be a priest in the Order of Melchizedek. The Christian Scriptures declare that Christ is a Priest of the Order of Melchizedek.

There are Blessings for healing, the transmission of the Holy Spirit, illumination, empowerment for Divine service, etc. It truly is a sacred gift to be given and shared, and we as humanity have the potential for so much more!
